Chair of the Milli Majlis Sahiba Gafarova met on 1 June with the delegation under Chairman of the Legislative Chamber of Oliy Majlis of the Republic of Uzbekistan Nurdinjon Ismoilov attending the current event of the Economic Co-operation Organisation’s Parliamentary Assembly (PAECO) in Islamabad.
Madame Speaker told Mr Ismoilov that Azerbaijan and Uzbekistan, close and friendly to each other, also had the religious and cultural affinity being a source of added opportunities to deepen the mutual relations further. The relations set new standards qualitatively with the two countries having gained independence; reciprocal visits and conversations of the state leaders had played a material role in reaching such a level. The high-level political dialogue is bearing well on the other walks of life, too, in Mrs Gafarova’s opinion.
The success of Azerbaijan in the 44-day Patriotic War when our country enforced the UN Security Council resolutions all by itself was mentioned, too. According to Mrs Gafarova, the victorious Azerbaijani Army delivered the formerly-occupied territories from the Armenian invaders under the supreme command of President Ilham Aliyev. As for now, a period of restoration and construction reigns in those lands. Armenia cannot seem to be able to reconcile itself with this reality; it refuses to divulge minefield maps and resorts to provocations as far as border delimitation is concerned. But Azerbaijan is moving to its own goals with assurance that notwithstanding.
Chair of the Legislative Chamber of Oliy Majlis of the Republic of Uzbekistan Nurdinjon Ismoilov expressed pleasure at the meeting with the Speaker of the Milli Majlis behind the scenes of the PAECO event. He told Mrs Gafarova that Uzbekistan appreciated very much the merits of Azerbaijan’s National Leader Heydar Aliyev in the furtherance of the bilateral ties and treasured his memory.
The Uzbek public are well aware of the achievements that Azerbaijan made under the guidance of President Ilham Aliyev and follow the developments in the relevant part of the Caucasus closely.
Mr Ismoilov pointed out our progressing political, economic and humanitarian ties, lauded the work done by the friendship groups in both parliaments and offered an opinion that MPs’ reciprocal visits were very important and useful in terms of discussing such topics as occupy both sides’ thoughts.
Development prospects of the interparliamentary connexions and other subjects were talked about during the conversation as well.

1-го июня Председатель Милли Меджлиса Сагиба Гафарова встретилась с делегацией под руководством Председателя Законодательной палаты Олий Мажлиса Республики Узбекистан Нурдинжона Исмоилова, участвующей в проходящем в Исламабаде мероприятии Парламентской Ассамблеи Организации Экономического Сотрудничества (ПА ОЭС).
Г-жа Спикер, говоря, что Азербайджан и Узбекистан близки и дружественны друг к другу, указала на религиозную и культурную общность двух народов как источник дополнительных возможностей для дальнейшего углубления наших связей. Двусторонние отношения перешли на качественно новый уровень с обретением независимости, в чём существенную роль сыграли взаимные визиты глав государств и проведённые ими переговоры. Политический диалог высокого уровня положительно влияет на другие сферы жизни, по мнению г-жи Гафаровой.
Был упомянут и успех Азербайджана в ходе 44-дневной Отечественной войны, когда наша страна своими силами привела в исполнение резолюции Совета безопасности ООН. По словам г-жи Гафаровой, триумфальная азербайджанская армия освободила ранее оккупированные земли от армянских захватчиков под верховным командованием Президента Ильхама Алиева, а сейчас на этих землях начат период восстановления и строительства. Не желающая смириться с реальностью, Армения отказывается выдать карты минных полей и прибегает к провокациям в вопросе делимитации границ.Несмотря на всё это, однако, Азербайджан уверенно двигается к поставленным им перед собой целям.
Председатель Законодательной палаты Олий Мажлиса Республики Узбекистан Нурдинжон Исмоилов выразил удовлетворение по поводу встречи со Спикером Милли Меджлиса на полях мероприятия ПА ЭКО. Он сказал, что в Узбекистане высоко ценят заслуги Общенационального лидера Азербайджана Гейдара Алиева в развитии двусторонних отношений и дорожат памятью о нём.
Было также сказано, что общественность Узбекистана прекрасно осведомлена об успехах Азербайджана, достигнутых под руководством Президента Ильхама Алиева, и пристально следит за развитием событий в соответствующем регионе Кавказа.
Г-н Исмоилов подчеркнул развитие наших политических, экономических и гуманитарных отношений по восходящей, отозвался с похвалой о деятельности групп дружбы в парламентах обеих стран и сказал, что взаимные визиты депутатов очень важны и полезны для обсуждения вопросов, занимающих умы обеих сторон.
В ходе беседы также были обговорены перспективы развития межпарламентских связей и другие темы.
